Miami of Florida showed how important home cookin’ when they beat Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, and Virginia consecutively. The problem is the Hurricanes ran out of gas at Pittsburgh last week and the running game has gone from 237 versus the Irish to 148 versus Virginia to 45 at Pittsburgh on 23 carries. Miami is banged up offensively and Clemson still has a dominating front four that is going to make it tough on the Hurricane backfield. All the Tigers have done in their last five games is run for 184, 183, 227, 224, and 221 yards while passing for 285, 479, 51, 191, and 207. It’s called BALANCE! The Tigers are rolling and I have a feeling by the time we get to bowl season they will enter as the #1 seed. It’s the time of year where Clemson dominates as their 5-1 SU and ATS record the past two seasons in this format reminds us (post-season). This is Miami’s fifth game in 29 days and 12th consecutive week of action without a bye. Clemson had the perfect warm-up game sandwiched between Florida State and South Carolina when they destroyed the Citadel 61-3. Meanwhile this is the fifth highly competitive game for Coach Richt and Miami and this team looks emotionally and physically burned out. They may stay competitive for a half but the Clemson depth and physicality will create an easy double-digit win. Miami’s defense has been on the field for the twelfth-most minutes in the nation including 36:30 versus Pittsburgh. Clemson has yielded just five rushing touchdowns all season at 3.1 yards a carry. Right now they are the most-complete team in the nation and prove it in a convincing ACC championship win. Since 2012 in either the ACC title game or post-season Coach Swinney is 8-1 ATS and used to have a QB that threw for 400-plus yards in back-to-back title games versus Alabama. Clemson has 40 sacks and are #2 in the nation while allowing just 13-points per game. They just toyed with South Carolina last week on the road.

For whatever reason Alex Smith has resorted to his old ways and the Chiefs look completely hopeless right now with a rushing attack that has produced 94 or less yards in five of six games, all spread defeats. It’s obvious that without a dependable run game Smith is somewhere between mediocrity and awful as a starting QB. But Coach Reid is mighty stubborn about a QB change and until that happens it’s hard to justify KC being a road chalk. If the Giants and Bills can beat KC why can’t the Jets? The Flyboys continue to play hard for Coach Bowles and this is actually the best season ever for Josh McCown with a career-high 17 touchdown passes. Robby Anderson is becoming an unstoppable force in this league and the Jets are very tough at home going 5-1 ATS. Last Sunday they could have easily defeated Carolina out-gaining the Panthers, who entered on a serious roll, by a 391-299 edge. KC has been out-gained in five of their last six games and McCown is 9-3 ATS in his career at home in December. The home team is 10-2 ATS in the last dozen New York Jet games. McCown threw for 307 yards versus a very-tough Carolina defense last week. I think the wrong team is favored and until Pat Mahomes gets the nod, you can’t play KC right now. Seriously, how can the Chiefs be a road favorite after losing to the Raiders, Bills, and Giants? Prior to last Sunday, the Jets had covered five straight at home… Read more…
